Donation to Haiti

The Town of Matthews Fire & EMS Department has donated approximately 30 self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) to the Port-au-Prince Rotary Club of Haiti. The equipment is used by firefighters to breathe during hazardous situations.


The department learned of the need in Haiti two months ago - prior to the earthquake. The SCBA were not being used by the Matthews Department because they have purchased new equipment that is compatible with that of other neighboring departments. The donated… Continue

Door-to-Door Solicitation Changes

The Town of Matthews has adopted a new ordinance requiring Peddler/Itinerant Merchants to obtain a permit before conducting business within Town limits. Previously, anyone wishing to solicit business door-to-door was only required to purchase a business privilege license.

Now, the Matthews Police Department will be able to conduct background checks on peddlers, door-to-door salespeople and other itinerant merchants and have the authority to deal with those who violate the ordinance. The merchan… Continue
